Title: Spring Weight Restriction Bulletin #9

Date: 05/18/2021

Effective Monday, May 3, 2021, 6 a.m., weight restrictions will be lifted on all state trunkline highways within the entire state of Michigan. Weight Restrictions are implemented during the spring frost thaw period and are now completed for the 2021 season. The anticipated timeframe for Spring Weight Restrictions is February through May. Specific dates will be determined by weather and road conditions and posted again when the 2022 season begins.

State trunkline highways typically carry M, I, or US designations. Weight restriction information and updates may be obtained by calling 1-800-787-8960. For companies located in Canada or New Jersey, information may be obtained by calling 517-335-0023.

- On routes designated as "All Season Routes" (green or gold on the MDOT Truck Operators Map) there will be no reduction in legal axle weight.

- On routes designated as "Seasonal" (solid or dashed red on the MDOT Truck Operators Map) there will be a weight reduction of 25% for rigid pavements and 35% for flexible pavements.

Extended permits will be valid for oversize only in the weight restricted area.

Single trip permits will not be issued for overweight loads or loads exceeding 14 feet in width, 11 axles and 150 feet in overall length in the weight restricted area.

Date: 05/03/2021

Effective Monday, May 3, 2021, 6 a.m., weight restrictions will be lifted on all state trunkline highways within the entire state of Michigan.

Date: 04/23/2021

Effective Friday, April 23, 2021, 6 a.m., weight restrictions will be lifted on all state trunkline highways from the southern Michigan border north to and including a line from US-2/US-141 at the Menominee River bridge west of Iron Mountain, then east on US-2 to US-41 in Rapid River, then north on US-41 to the intersection of M-28 in Harvey. Frost restrictions are still in effect for the remainder of the state and will be enforced on all state trunklines north and west of this line.

Effective Monday, April 12, 2021, 6 a.m., weight restrictions will be lifted on all state trunkline highways from the southern Michigan border north to and including US-2/US-141 at the Menominee River bridge west of Iron Mountain, then east on US-2 to St. Ignace. Frost restrictions are still in effect for the remainder of the state and will be imposed and enforced on all state trunkline highways north of US-2 and M-185 on Mackinac Island. State trunk line highways typically carry M, I or US designations. 

Weight Restriction information and updates may be obtained by calling 1-800-787-8960. For companies located in Canada or New Jersey, information may be obtained by calling 517-335-0023. 

On routes designated as "All Season Routes" (green & gold on the MDOT Truck Operators Map), there will be no reduction in legal axle weight. On routes designated as "Seasonal" (solid or dashed red on the MDOT Truck Operators Map), there will be a reduction of 25% for rigid pavements and 35% for flexible pavements.

Frost restrictions are still in effect for the remainder of the state and will be imposed and enforced on all state trunkline highways north of the Mackinac Bridge.

On routes designated as "All Season Routes" (green & gold on the MDOT Truck Operators Map), there will be no reduction in legal axle weight. Effective Thursday, March 25, 2021, 6 a.m., weight restrictions will be lifted on all state trunkline highways from the southern Michigan border north to and including M-20 from the interchange with US-31, Oceana County, East on M-20 to US-131, North on US-131 to M-20, Mecosta County, East on M-20 to US-10, Midland County, East on US-10 to M-25 in Bay City and including the entire thumb area. State trunk line highways typically carry M, I or US designations.

Effective 6:00 am Friday, March 19th, 2021, weight restrictions will be lifted from the Southern Michigan border north to M-43 in the City of South Haven, then east on M-43 to US-131 in Kalamazoo County, then south on US-131 to I-94 in Kalamazoo County then east on I-94 to I-69 in Calhoun County, then north on I-69 to I-96 in Lansing then east on I-96 to M-59 in Livingston County then continuing east on M-59 ending at the I-94 interchange in Macomb County.
