Title: Spring Weight Restriction Update #9

Date: 05/08/2020

Effective 6:00 a.m. Friday, May 8, 2020, weight restrictions will be lifted on all state trunkline highways within the entire state of Michigan.

This spring weight restriction update does not alter or affect the direction given in Governor Whitmer’s Executive Order 2020-44 (COVID-19).


Weight Restrictions are implemented during the spring frost thaw period and are now completed for the 2020 season. The anticipated timeframe for Spring Weight Restrictions is February through May. Specific dates will be determined by weather and road conditions and posted again when the 2021 season begins.

Title: Spring Weight Restriction Update #8

Date: 04/24/2020

Effective 7:00 a.m. Friday, April 24th, 2020 weight restrictions will be lifted on all state trunkline highways from the southern Michigan border north to and including US-2/US-141 at the Menominee River bridge west of Iron Mountain, then east on US-2 to St. Ignace then north on I-75 to the International Bridge. Restrictions will also be lifted east of I-75 in the Upper Peninsula with the exception of M-185 on Mackinac Island.

Frost restrictions are still in effect for the remainder of the state and will be imposed and enforced on all state trunkline highways north and west of US-2 and I-75 and on M-185 on Mackinac Island..

This spring weight restriction update does not alter or affect the direction given in Governor Whitmer’s Executive Order 2020-44 (COVID-19).

Weight restriction information and updates may be obtained by calling 1-800-787-8960. For Companies located in Canada and New Jersey, information may be obtained by calling 517-335-0023.

On routes designated as "All Season Routes" (green and gold on the MDOT Truck Operators Map) there will be no reduction in legal axle weight. On routes designated as "Seasonal" (solid or dashed red on the MDOT Truck Operators Map), there will be a reduction of 25% for rigid pavements and 35% for flexible pavements.

Extended permits will be valid for oversize only in the weight restricted area.

Single trip permits will not be issued for overweight or loads exceeding 14 feet in width, 11 axles and 150 feet in overall length in the weight restricted area.

Title: Spring Weight Restriction #7

Date: 04/02/2020

Effective noon Thursday April 2nd, 2020 weight restrictions will be lifted on all state trunkline highways from the southern Michigan border north to the Mackinac Bridge. Frost restrictions are still in effect for the remainder of the state and will be imposed and enforced on all state trunkline highways north of the Mackinac Bridge.
This spring weight restriction update does not alter or affect the direction given in Governor Whitmer’s Executive Order 2020-12 (COVID-19).

Weight restriction information and updates may be obtained by calling 1-800-787-8960. For Companies located in Canada and New Jersey, information may be obtained by calling 517-335-0023.

On routes designated as "All Season Routes" (green and gold on the MDOT Truck Operators Map) there will be no reduction in legal axle weight. Title: Spring Weight Restriction Bulletin Update #6

Date: 03/30/2020

Effective 6:00 am Monday, March 30th, 2020 weight restrictions will be imposed and enforced on all state trunk line north of a line on M-66 from the US-31 intersection in the City of Charlevoix, Charlevoix County then south to the intersection of M-32 in the City of East Jordan then east on M-32 to the intersection of US-23 in the City of Alpena, Alpena County.

This spring weight restriction update does not alter or affect the direction given in Governor Whitmer’s Executive Order 2020-12 (COVID-19).

Effective 6:00 am Monday, March 23rd, 2020 weight restrictions will be imposed and enforced on all state trunk line north of a line on M-20 from the US-31 interchange in Oceana County east to US-131 in Mecosta County then North on US-131 to M-20 in Big Rapids then east on M-20 to US-10 in Midland County and then east on M-10 to M-25 in Bay City, Bay County and continuing on M-25 for the entire thumb area.

Effective 6:00 am Monday, March 16th 2020 weight restrictions will be imposed and enforced on all state trunk line north of a line on M-43 in the City of South Haven east to US-131 in Kalamazoo County then south to I-94 in Kalamazoo County then east to I-69 in Calhoun County, then north to Lansing then continuing east on I-69 to US-127, then north on US-127 to M-20 in Mount Pleasant then east on M-20 to US-10 in Midland County and then east on M-10 to M-25 in Bay City, Bay County and continuing on M-25 for the entire thumb area.

Effective 6:00 am Monday, March 2nd 2020 weight restrictions will be imposed and enforced on all state trunk line highways within an area of Michigan described as follows. Highways north of a line on M-43 in the City of South Haven east to US-131 in Kalamazoo County then south to I-94 in Kalamazoo County then east to I-69 in Calhoun County, then north to Lansing then continuing east on I-69 to Port Huron in St. Clair County. Highways south of a line on M-55 from the US-31 intersection in Manistee County east to M-66 in Missaukee County then north on M-66 to M-55 in Missaukee County then east on M-55 to the intersection of US-23 in City of Tawas, Iosco County. All state trunk lines between these two lines will have weight restrictions imposed and enforced.

Title: General Spring Weight Restriction Bulletin #1

Date: 02/24/2020

Effective 6:00 am Monday, February 24th, 2020 weight restrictions will be imposed and enforced on all state trunk line highways within an area of Michigan described as follows. Highways north of a line on M-43 in the City of South Haven east to US-131 in Kalamazoo County then south to I-94 in Kalamazoo County then east to I-69 in Calhoun County, then north to Lansing then continuing east on I-69 to Port Huron in St. Clair County. Highways south of a line on M-46 in Muskegon County from the US-31 Business Route in the City of Muskegon then east to US-131 then North on US-131 to M-46 then east to I-75 North near Saginaw then north on I-75 to M-25 near Bay City continuing east on M-25 to M-46 in Port Sanilac, Sanilac County including the entire Thumb Region. All state trunk lines between these two lines will have weight restrictions imposed and enforced.
